Day 18 – Boxing Day

The weather is being rather well behaved at the moment. Not too strong but still in a helpful direction. We feel sure that despite their distance from land and loved ones that the post Christmas party is still going on for our teams. The distances the crews have rowed towards Barbados has definitely gone down in the last day but not as much as ‘normal’. This is because the crew have taken a moment to really enjoy what they’re doing, celebrate their successes so far and enjoy the sunshine which has finally come out and started shining on the crews.

It must be so nice to finally have sunshine finally, after weeks of cloudy and overcast skies with waves sloshing over the boat. It’s not hard to see why the crews wanted to take a moment to enjoy the weather a bit. Have a swim, have a wash and start to clean themselves up a bit.

With the festive season comes the new year, and for our crews although nothing changes in reality, it will provide some level of focus on the future. The time has come for the hard graft, to stop the party and get some more miles in the bank. We know that for the next couple of weeks this middle section of the row will be all about the grind. Grinding out mile after mile. The horizon will look identical to the day before, but the crews have to continue with their inner strength telling them to push on and that Barbados is getting closer and closer with every stroke.

  • Day 37 – Surf’s up

it seems unlikely that ocean rowing boats would be able to surf and yet that’s exactly what Oceans Elite have been able to do recently.
