Day 20 – Fishing

The wildlife for the crews on this trip just keeps coming and coming. Rowing Stones saw three dolphins swimming in the waves yesterday but they didn’t stop for a closer look and overnight there were a load of random fish and plankton all around the boat reflecting the moonshine. It sounds absolutely magical.

With so much aquatic life being seen by the boat Rowing Stones have turned their hand to fishing to see if they could land an extra meal.

The fish were still there in the morning so we decided to fish, lasted literally 5 seconds and Josh had his first fish. We ate it in sashimi with lemon juice and olive oil, extreeeemely good.

They later updated us with…

Just saw a shark and a silver cloud of 50+ flying fishes. I don’t know why we’re so lucky. Scared we’ll have to pay it back somehow during the crossing. Only orcas, a dragon and a unicorn and the animal bucket list is done.

They really are so fortunate to have so much wildlife around. The flying fish indicates the presence of predators in the water, either sharks or swordfish / marlin are the most prevalent. And other crews crossing in this area have had close contact with swordfish in the last few days. We can’t wait for the pictures to come back from the Rowing Stones and we’re hoping that Ocean’s Elite will be capturing some content on their own devices soon so we can get a glimpse of what they see when on the oars.
