Last 24 hours before departure
The crews have spent the last two weeks in Gran Canaria ensuring that their boats and all their equipment are present and in excellent working condition. Supported by Mission Atlantic staff the teams have worked hard to make sure that they are as prepared as possible for their incredible endeavour. From watermakers to satellite phones, from cookers to spare rowing gates the crews have ticked off every element on the check list of equipment and today they have just 24 hours remaining before their departure. The YB trackers are live and ready to send back the position of all crews to our website for the duration of their trip. The weather forecast for the first week at sea appears to be as favourable as we could hope for with moderate following winds and relatively small wave heights allowing for the crews to ease into the challenge somewhat gently, rather than being in battle-mode from day one.
We cannot wait for the start which will be livestreamed on our Instagram channel tomorrow morning from 9:55 onwards as we watch the crews depart and wave them off. If you are in the Canary Islands please do come down wish the crews your very best as they start their incredible journey. The crews will shove off from Purto Morgan Marina at 10:00. We do look forwards to seeing you all there for this incredible spectacle.
