Day 50
We’ll cover Ocean’s Elite’s arrival in their own post but we haven’t forgotten about Rowing Stones at all. They continue to battle on superbly showing determination and strength with every oar stroke. The team remain ever alert for danger and are maybe a little bit more on edge than the battle hardened veterans of Ocean’s Elite.
The effort of rowing the boat is now starting to show in their bodies. Joaquin’s knee recently started hurting after bashing it with oars. Thankfully this isn’t the knee which he recently received surgery to. He was managing the pain well and continuing with his shifts but then JP accidentally sat on it and it got a fair bit worse. We haven’t heard more from the team about this recently though and believe that it’s improving.
Baudouin has started to get tenosynovitis in his wrist. This is a reasonably common ailment for rowers as the tendons become inflamed due to the repetitive motion. This is normally solved by putting ice on the affected area and resting it as much as possible. Sadly, neither of these are possible at the moment, but the knowledge that after returning to land and resting it, the condition would likely subside and he would be able to use his hand normally again was enough encouragement for him to continue with his normal enthusiasm.
We have also received a video from the moment when Eric aboard the sailing vessel “Pilgrim” visited the crew on 5th January.
