Day 41 – On approach

We’re getting closer now to preparing for the arrival of the crews. Many family members have been in touch asking about when we think the crews will be arriving into Barbados. The crews will be arriving into Port St Charles which is on the North Western side of Barbados.

The YB tracker does give an estimate of when the crews may arrive and you can filter the result in two ways. The first is by the crew’s average speed since they started and the other is if the crew maintain the speed they have maintained over the last 24 hours for the rest of the trip.

Of course when looking at arrival predictions we are aware that the crews will probably be going faster as they get closer to land because they are eager to see loved ones and will be pushing on as hard as they can. Safe in the knowledge that they will be able to rest and recover over the coming weeks and months. Also their boats are now far lighter than they were at the start of the row and easier for the tired rowers to move. Also the weather is forecast to strengthen and come more from behind the crews over the coming days, so we could expect them to get a bit faster.

This expectation of going faster is tempered though with the need for the crews to be far more careful about their course as they get closer to Barbados. After travelling across the Atlantic the last thing anyone needs is for the rowers to miss Barbados.
